Chernobyl, and in particular Pripyat, has always intrigued me. It’s the site of a major disaster but yet outside of the blast damage at the reactor itself there was no physical damage to the city. It leaves behind a ghost town which is an example of what happens if humans just plain disappear. It’s not like an old mining town where people slowly left, taking their stuff with them. The residents here were evacuated but they expected to return not long after meaning that large portions of peoples lives were left behind, something you don’t get from a town which died slowly. It’s an eerie thing and I would like to visit someday.
